Book Review: The Maid by Nita Prose

**My review includes spoilers**

Molly Gray is a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel. She takes great pride in her work in a way that sets her apart but she’s also unique in that she doesn’t pick up on societal queues and norms quite the way others do. When Molly discovers Mr. Black, VIP guest at the hotel dead on his bed, she unknowingly sets off a series of events that results in a massive investigation that results in her arrest. Molly has to dig deep, remember the advice of her Gran, and put her trust in the right hands to solve this Clue-style mystery.

I’m going to be honest, I DNF’d this some time ago due to the portrayal of the MC - she is clearly described as not like the others, and a special girl etc. As someone who has a special needs family member, this deliberate lack of proper identification and the other characters’ taking advantage of her trusting and naive nature felt wrong. But as time goes on, this becomes an asset for Molly. I’m so incredibly glad she emerges as the hero and that she grows to see her own self worth. I’m so glad I picked this back up and recommend this for this who love a Clue-inspired who dunnit mystery.

TW: special needs character, manipulation of a person with special needs, drug abuse, coercion, domestic abuse, violence

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4/5
